Diabetes Surgery

If Diabetes type 2 is accompanied by Obesity most of the surgical procedures AIBL offers will result in an excellent chance to resolve diabetes, and therefore patients are off all of the diabetic medications.

Gastric Bypass:

• 87% of patients have complete diabetes resolution.
• 97% of patients have significant improvement in the diabetes.
• Most patients are off diabetic medications within 2 weeks following the surgery even though much weight loss has not occurred yet!

Lapband:

• 65 to 75% of patients have diabetes resolution in 2 years following the surgery.

Duodenal switch:

• 97% of patients have complete diabetes resolution.
• Many patients are off diabetic medications within 2 weeks following the surgery even though much weight loss has not occurred yet!

Sleeve Gastrectomy

• Long term results not yet available but we expect very similar results to lapband with 65 to 75% of patients have diabetes resolution in 2 years following the surgery.

Diabetes surgery for the Non-obese

• Many procedures are under development and clinical research. The Duodeno-Jejunal bypass is the primary procedure in this group.
• The DJB is being studied in human subjects at this time and soon this may become the procedure of choice for the non-obese diabetic patient.
• The DJB is designed to resolve type 2 diabetes without causing any weight loss or related side effects. Animal experiments revealed very promising results.
