I have been heavy all my life, growing up as the fat kid in a family full of athletes. I struggled as an adult, trying a variety of diets and exercise programs, but never able to stick with anything long enough to see real results. I started to explore weight loss surgery after being introduced to one of Dr. Ganta's patients and after meeting with Dr. Ganta and his staff, I made my decision to change my life forever. Dr. Ganta is straightforward, honest, and a wonderful surgeon. Not only can you barely see scars from my laparoscopic procedure, Dr. Ganta was also there to help my wife when she had complications from her surgery which had taken place out of state. I've lost 160 pounds and have a life I didn't imagine possible. I've become quite the clotheshorse, and I climb stairs now when I used to take the elevator. I want to walk around with a shirt on that says "ask me about gastric bypass surgery!" and just tell people "you don't have to be fat anymore!".

I am so proud of Foy for the way he has changed his life. I thank of you for all your help and support. He tried so hard to lose weight prior to finding Dr. Ganta. He weighed 294 pounds in July of 2008, had diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, knee, neck, back and ankle issues, shortness of breath and carried around an oxygen tank. He had sleep apnea and very little energy to get him though the day. He was terribly "grumpy" because he just did not feel well. Foy was taking multiple medications that was costing us and our insurance company $42,000 a year in medications alone. He was taking 7 insulin shots a day. We purchased an additional refrigerator to store his diabetes meds in when we ordered a 3 month supply. As of today, May, 2009, Foy weighs 186 pounds and is completely off all diabetes and cholesterol medications. He owes all of this to Dr. Ganta and a terrific staff. Foy encourages everyone he knows with the same issues to seek help from Dr. Ganta. The secret is to do exactly what Dr. Ganta told him to do and the weight just kept coming off. Foy still has breathing problems but that is due to only having 55 percent of lung capacity from another issue. We were told 2 years ago that we should enjoy every minute as Foy would probably not live much longer than that with all of the problems he was having. Now we are living life and thanking Dr. Ganta and GOD for every minute we have. Foy is now ABLE to enjoy his life.......and his grandkids and their future! Diane Campbell

Before Photo After Photo

I have struggled with my weight since high school. In my early 20's the weight just kept going up and I tried every diet out there, but I could not keep the weight off. I have always been athletic and love exercise, but my eating habits were not the best ;o) I was diagnosed and hospitalized for Ketoacidosis May of 2006 and left their with type 2 diabetes. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life on insulin and pills. I had the lap band put on 8/2006 and was not successful with losing weight. I was struggling with keeping my weight down and being insulin dependent my weight fluctuated. At work I knew of several people that had gastric bypass and 2 people that had used Dr. Ganta and they had nothing but good things to say about him and his office staff. During my appointment Dr. Ganta listened to my concerns and provided me with my options. Having RNY gastric bypass was the best decision I could have made. I have lost over 70lbs and kept it off. I feel part of my success is the follow up appointments with Dr. Ganta and the support group meetings. I still love working out but its much easier and more enjoyable now that I can see the results.

I have been obese for most of my adult life and have tried everything from diet pills to shots. The weight loss just did not last, and I always gained additional pounds back. In early 2008 I began having issues with my health: acid reflux, asthma, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and my heart. My cardiologist recommended Dr. Ganta, and so I made an appointment. This began the first day of the rest of my wonderful life. I have dropped from a 24 dress size to a 14 and am still losing, so I will not put my after photo up yet (still a work in progress). I am in the blue dress in my before photo. I feel wonderful and am off my sleep apnea machine, blood pressure, acid reflux and asthma medications. I regularly work out and am now working on my personal trainer certification so that I can help others like me. I can now walk and climb stairs without tiring, and men are now opening doors for me instead of going through first and letting the door hit me in the face. :-) Life is great! Dr. Ganta is phenomenal; he truly cares. He is the wizard of bariactric surgery! I love him and his staff; you could not ask for a more caring team of professionals.

Angie Nelson

Before Photo After Photo

My name is Angie Nelson and I have lost 113 pounds! Before WLS my life was not what I had dreamed it would be. Being morbidly obese was all consuming for me. There wasn’t a minute when my weight wasn’t weighing on my mind, pun intended! Imagine walking up a flight of stairs, but having to stop midway to catch your breath. Now imagine this happening when you are walking with colleagues and friends! Everywhere I went I was mentally measuring – can make it through the space between those two tables; is there enough room to get in and out of the car; will I fit in that chair? There were a couple of catalysts that led me to researching WLS. One was fear for my health. My dearest friend cared enough to confront me about my weight and her fears that I would develop Diabetes, heart trouble and all that comes with it. If that wasn’t enough, there was a time I had to ask my husband to back his truck out of our parking spot at the grocery store so I could open the door wide enough to get in. I was horrified, embarrassed, ashamed….then finally, it dawned on me that I was no longer able to put my shoes without having to sit on the floor to reach my feet. I was miserable on the inside. It took so much food to satisfy my appetite. I ate like a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys! I had tried everything to loose weight and while I always lost some, I could never keep it off for long – and it always came back with a vengeance. After a year of research and evaluation I decided that the gastric bypass was for me and that Dr. Ganta with the Austin Institute of Bariatrics and Laporascopy was the man to do it. Dr. Ganta and his knowledgeable staff were a Godsend during the entire process. I never felt alone in my journey. Every question, no matter how small was answered in full. Dr. Ganta saved my life. The word doctor originates from the old French and Latin word “doctor” which means “to teach”; and Dr. Ganta has taught me a new way of life. The gastric bypass was the tool I needed to be successful. My life has changed, because I have changed. Loosing 113 pounds and over 100 inches not only increased my sense of self worth, but it has decreased my blood pressure, eliminated the sore feet and knees that I dealt with on a daily basis, and I feel more full of life than I ever have before. I make the right choices with my food and I am in control of my destiny; the food no longer controls me – and what a feeling of empowerment.
