My name is April and I did the Gastric Band surgery approximately 18 months ago and I lost 70 pounds, and my life has been the best that it has ever been.

So, I struggled with my weight for a very long time.  Like most women, usually after having my first child, and it was an up and down.  I did the yo-yo diets, you know, I tried everything, the liquid, the Weight Watchers, the vinegar and water, pretty much anything.  And then just  one day, I was just kinda giving up, and there was a commercial on the radio saying, you know, Dr. Ganta.  I heard it several times but never really paid attention to it, until one day it clicked and I got my cell phone out and remembered the phone number and put it in and called the next day.  And the funny part was, is I had called to make a consultation appointment and I was talking to my ex-husband and he had already had his appointment with Dr.  Ganta, and so he was explaining to me it and kinda pushing me towards it cuz he was doing it.  He had his surgery set and so I was like, okay, that’s just the, just more motivation for me to go ahead and go through with the consultation and see where it went.

So, when I was, probably about 10 years ago I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and I know that the weight can cause physical and emotional problems even outside the disease.  But I knew that if I didn’t lose the weight, that I may not be able to walk when I got older, and I would have had major problems with my joints, so I knew that I needed to really, really lose weight.  And just struggled doing it cuz I would go and exercise and try to follow a diet, then I would get discouraged because I’m not losing it fast enough or it’s not staying off.  And so just mainly, I had the issues with my joint pain and not feeling comfortable in my own body.  You know, I’d buy overly baggy clothes to wear, like my scrubs that I would wear to work, would be two times too big because I didn’t want anybody to see my weight, even though they could see it through the scrubs.  But the main reason why I did the surgery is because I just wanted to know in the future that I’d be able to  run, or walk, or play, even chase after my kids, or even my grand kids, for that matter.

So my, when I first called this office, I left a message and they called me back and, you know, they went through my insurance with me and everything.  It was a very smooth process, I had no problems, they took care of everything with the insurance.  When I came in to visit with the dietician, she went through everything in detail with me, answered any questions.  So it was, made it easy, kinda, even though I’m a nurse, it kinda brought it down to a level that  I can understand.  I mean, I went through nutrition classes and stuff like that, but the dietician really helped me out and really helped me understand what I needed to do.  And then just visiting with Dr. Ganta, he gave encouragement and told me that we can do this, even though I was still very skeptical about it and I was like, uhh.  You know, he’s gonna say that to everybody but, you know, here we are and we actually did do it with his help.  And Carlos is constantly giving encouragement, you know, even though it’s only a five pound weight loss this time, but it was a weight loss.  So it’s always encouragement with the staff.  The front desk always answered any questions and were very friendly on the phone, so it was just a very pleasant experience all together.

So with the weight loss my life has changed a lot.  I’m more confident in my clothes, I wear tighter clothes than I probably should.  I’m able to go out and run with the kids, play on the playground with them.  I’ve done several races with them like mud races, where I would have never done that in the past.  Just being able to show my kids that I can get out there and do it, it kinda encourages them to stay healthy and fit and, you know, try different things.  I have become an avid runner even though I hated running before, I hated walking before.  But now, it’s, I’m a constant, looking for the next race or the next thing that I can do just to show, or just to say that I, that I did it, that I finished it.

So I enjoy coming into the office.  I’m like, this is probably one of the only doctor’s office that I enjoy coming into because he’s always like, good job, you know you did good.  There’s been a couple of times that Dr. Ganta kind of had to get stern with me and, but he always sets goals for the next visit and tells me, we can do this, you can do this, just keep up the good work, and that’s inspiring to me.

So when I have a friend that’s talking to me about, you know, they don’t if they want to do this, the surgery, or if it’s the right thing for them to do, I always tell them, well look at me, it’s changed my life completely, and it’s, you know Dr. Ganta’s very supportive and very helpful.  And so I definitely, you know, when I see  somebody that says, you know, should I do the surgery, I’m like, yes and definitely go see Dr. Ganta for this.
