The city has earned improved sales tax and tax appraisals over the years which can be traced west to the Texas oil fields.

Brownwood celebrates over 50 special events each year ranging from the Annual Brown County Rodeo and Parade to the Brownwood Reunion Celebration, Christmas Under the Stars Festival, and Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.
The Brown County Rodeo has been an annual event for over 50 years. The event kicks off on a Saturday morning as the parade makes its way through downtown Brownwood. The annual celebration is organized by The Brown County Fair Association.
